POPPIES ON A ROLL

There is a long history of poppy flower paintings by Monet, van Gogh, Klimt, Sargent, O'Keeffe, and even Edvard Munch. Warhol's Flowers - blatantly copied from a photograph by Patricia Caulfield published in a 1964 issue of Modern Photography (and for which he was sued for copyright infringement) - has been relentlessly and repeatedly copied by a multitude of others, most notably Donald Sultan, whose multitude of editions were the inspiration for Poppies on a Roll.

A local gallery refused to show this piece because Sultan occasionally visited there. What’s funny is that my piece is not a copy of Sultan’s copy of Warhol’s copy of Caulfield’s photograph - it is a commentary on plagiarism and reproduction.

At this point the poppies just look like wallpaper to me. The only question left if if there is a way to roll them out faster.
